November London Events: Everything You Need to Know23 Oct 2017
Autumn is truly in full swing in the UK now, especially as we head into November. While the weather may be chillier, and the days are getting shorter, that’s no reason to stay inside and not take advantage of the multitude of wonderful events occurring in London this month.
November brings exciting events such as Bonfire Night and is perhaps the beginning of all the Christmas events, which means Christmas lights popping up alongside ice rinks and of course the occasional glass of mulled wine.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Keep reading to find out Smart City Weddings’ top London events to get involved in this month.
While it may be a chilly month, we have the excitement of fireworks and bonfires, together with the toffee apples, treacle toffee and comfort of wrapping up warm in hats, scarves and gloves.
Firework displays are taking place across London, so wherever you are, there is surely one nearby. Or why not venture out on a London adventure to make sure you end your night with a bang? Here are just a few of the firework displays happening around London…
- Alexandra Palace Fireworks Festival
Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill, Friday 3rd November 9pm (Laser Show 8.30pm) – Saturday 4th November: 8pm (Laser Show 7.30pm)
Tickets range from £8.50- £11 for this spectacular affair, and it is expected to be one of the biggest and slickest displays throughout London. That’s why they have decided to do it twice – both Friday and Saturday. With a glittering panoramic view of London as a backdrop alongside a huge parade, street food and a beer village, this is not one to miss.
- Battersea Park Fireworks
Battersea Park, Battersea, Saturday 4th November 7.30pm
Award-winning pyrotechnics are behind this London show, where you’ll be graced with a grand display that lasts for a whole 22 minutes. The theme behind this year’s display is ‘power’, so it’s sure to be one to remember. Tickets nearly always sell out, so make sure you pick one up for £10 soon!
- Brent Fireworks
Wembley Park, Saturday 4th November, 6pm
What more could you want from a firework display than the stunning Wembley stadium standing tall as a backdrop? The bangs and sparkles are accompanied by a ‘top-secret’ soundtrack too.
If last year’s show is anything to go by, this one is also going to be a pure show-stopper; enough to compete with any event held at Wembley before. The event is also free.
Christmas in London
This time of year is the most bling of all as the city undergoes its festive transformation. Alongside the Christmas lights, there are many festive markets, a spot of ice skating and plenty of Christmas shopping to indulge in. There are Christmas lights to see on Oxford Street in Soho from the switch-on, on the 7th November, alongside others such as Convent Garden from the 14th November. You can see other Christmas light switch ons here.
Christmas Markets also begin to make their way to London in November, with festive popups appearing in many areas such as Leicester Square from the 10th and London Bridge from the 30th November. You can view other markets which will be appearing in November here.
Southbank Centre Winter Fest
From the 10th November, Southbank Centre Winter Festival will catapult the festive season into full swing. With an array of shows, performances, and activities (all with a fun Nordic theme) this festival has plenty of fun to get involved in, which is guaranteed to get anyone in the Christmas spirit.
Don’t forget to visit the Christmas Market here, which is classed as one of the best in the city. You can pick up presents for the whole family as well as some fabulous sweet treats. The festival will be happening every day from 10am to 11pm and is free to wander around.
November Theatre and Arts
This time of year is perfect to take a trip to the theatre or to view some of the world’s finest art. Firstly, the musical, Hamilton, is making its way to London’s west end, and as the winner of 11 gongs at the 2016 Tony Awards, this show is one to definitely go see! Its diverse, unique and slightly obscure, making it truly brilliant. The initial booking period is sold out, but returns do come back in on the site as well as a daily and a weekly lottery. You can visit their official site for more information.
Previews begin on the 21st November, but the show officially kicks off December 7th
The Tate Britain in Westminster is hosting a remarkable art exhibition titled “The EY Exhibition: Impressionists in London”, from November 2nd. This exhibition includes work of Monet, Tissot and Pissarro and is full of life and British culture. Alongside this, the National Portrait Gallery in Leicester Square is kickstarting an exhibition of Cezanne portraits in November. Cezanne was the true king of post-impressionism portraits – a must-visit exhibition.
While these events are here to make your month even more exciting, the hustle and bustle of the city can sometimes be overwhelming and can take some of the fun out of enjoying the event. London’s public transport system can also be difficult to navigate and doesn’t promise to get you to your event on time.
