Alternative Ways To Spend New Year’s Day

22 Dec 2017

New Year’s Day: it’s definitely a national holiday, but it lacks the memorable ‘wow’ factor of Christmas Day. Most of us don’t have that annual many New Year’s Day traditions, the day is often just spent on the sofa watching festive TV and finishing off the last of the Quality Street. For those of us who won’t need to spend the day recovering from a wild New Year’s Eve, there’s plenty to see and do in London. Why not start a new tradition this year and hire a car to spend the day soaking up the city?

Spend Your New Years Day an Alternative Way

Start With Some Sightseeing

Most London museums and attractions will be open as usual by New Year’s Day, making the most of the city’s booming festive tourist population and offering shelter from the snow (or lack thereof). From Buckingham Palace to the London Eye and the Tate Modern, if there’s anywhere you’ve been keen to get to but not yet found the time, pencil it in this New Year. For a most festive attraction, head to the Canary Wharf ice rink and skate off some of those Christmas pounds. There’s definitely a lot to see and do, but hiring a car from Smart City Weddings makes getting around London in style a cinch.

Catch the New Year’s Day Parade

If you live in London and you’ve not yet seen the New Year’s Day Parade, this is definitely the year to change that. An impressive procession featuring over 8,500 performers, the parade is a spectacle and a tradition in itself. It passes through over 2.2 miles of the city centre, beginning at midday, so it shouldn’t be too hard to catch a glimpse of the show even without buying tickets. Alternatively, you could guarantee a great view from the grandstands from £30 per ticket.

Grab Food In Town

After the parade, why not patronise one of the city’s many bars and restaurants for a special New Year’s Day lunch? If you’re feeling sick and tired of roasted meats and vegetables, switch it up and head to Baiwei in Chinatown, or spoil yourself with Amaya’s pan-Indian tapas. Many restaurants will be offering special New Year’s Day menus, which are a little pricier than the standard a la cartes but are usually worth it.

For those still nursing a hangover, you may want to check out one of the city’s many ‘bottomless brunch’ offers which will be running especially for New Year’s Day. Hix, in Soho, will be offering bottomless Bloody Marys and prosecco brunches from midday, and HotBox, who serve up Tex-Mex style brunches, will keep you in bottomless Bloody Marys, prosecco and mimosas for just £25.

Make The Most Of The City’s Festive Offerings

From the famous Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and the London Bridge City Christmas Market to Christmas at Kew Gardens, London’s Christmas calendar is still taking bookings during the first few days of January. If there’s anything you wanted to see but didn’t get time for in a rush of Christmas shopping and planning, make New Year’s Day that bit more special and catch it before it’s gone.

Be sure to make your New Year’s Day run that bit more smoothly with London car hire. If you’re looking for sightseeing car hire London this New Year’s Day, simply get in touch with us at Smart City Weddings.
